Islamic Relief Canada’s annual Grand Iftar took place on March 8th at Aria Banquet Hall, bringing the community together for an evening of reflection, generosity, and impact. As in previous years, the primary objective of the event was to raise crucial funds for the Orphan Sponsorship Program, providing support to the countless children in Gaza who have been orphaned as a result of the ongoing genocide.

The evening featured a powerful keynote address by Mufti Aasim Rashid, who delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking message that resonated deeply with attendees. The fundraising segment was led by Imam Sikander Hashmi, Executive Director of the Canadian Council of Imams, based in Ottawa. With heartfelt words and compelling storytelling, Imam Sikander moved the audience, evoking a strong emotional response that underscored the urgency of the cause. The generosity of the community was truly remarkable, with Islamic Relief Canada raising over $175,000 in a single evening—enough to sponsor more than 162 orphans for an entire year.
With over 400 attendees, the event was a testament to the collective compassion and commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of orphaned children in Gaza.
