Charges are now being recommended against 10 misbehaving passengers police had to remove from a Mexico-bound flight at Vancouver International Airport over the weekend.
Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of “unruly passengers” aboard flight WS2662 to Cabo San Lucas, according to Richmond RCMP.
The individuals were allegedly not complying with flight crew instructions, which created safety concerns and delayed the flight, police said. “Richmond RCMP officers attended and worked with airline staff to safely de‑escalate the situation, which included directing passengers to deplane,” Mounties wrote in a statement. There were no reported injuries, and the flight eventually departed for Mexico around 9:30 a.m.
Police arrested 10 people who were later released on undertakings with a date to appear in Richmond Provincial Court.
In an update Tuesday, Mounties said they are recommending mischief charges under the Criminal Code and failure to comply with flight crew instructions under the Aeronautics Act.
In a statement, WestJet said it is conducting a “thorough review” of the incident.
