Nisa Homes is a not-for-profit charity that provides shelter, safety, and support services for Muslim women and children who are fleeing domestic violence, homelessness or seeking asylum.
In times of financial difficulties, single mothers and women living in abuse are the first to suffer. They fear falling into poverty if they leave. Even accessing supports like transportation, counselling or housing is unaffordable. Nisa Homes envisions a flourishing Muslim community in which help is available, shelter is accessible, and healing is possible. Through the services they provide, the 3-month length of stay, and the support to find employment, education and housing, 85% of the clients have succeeded in becoming self-sufficient and independent.
Since opening in 2015, Nisa Homes Vancouver has:
Sheltered 146 women and children
Received 1174 inquiries for help
capacity to shelter 12 women & children
