Ottawa, ON – Hon. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Chief Opposition Whip and Conservative Member of Parliament for South Surrey-White Rock, introduced Bill C-391, The Safe Hospitals Act:
Bill C-391 will keep doctors, nurses, and patients safe by toughening penalties for criminals who bring dangerous weapons into hospitals. It will also ban Health Ministers from allowing open, unsupervised and
unprescribed hard drug use in hospitals.
“After nine years of this radical NDP-Liberal government, Canadians no longer feel safe in our hospitals. Doctors and nurses in British Columbia are being exposed to fentanyl smoke in their workplace, and patients are concerned about the presence of dangerous weapons while they receive treatment,” said Findlay. “Before Justin Trudeau, hospitals were sanctuaries of care and safety.
His reckless hard drug legalization experiment, coupled with the Liberals’ reckless
catch-and-release legislation, have wreaked havoc on our hospitals and put our healthcare workers and patients in danger.”
Under Justin Trudeau’s watch, violence against first responders and healthcare workers continues to increase.
The British Columbia Nurses Union has confirmed that nurses are being exposed to
fentanyl and meth smoke in their workplace, and a leaked memo from British Columbia’s Northern Health has revealed instructions that nurses are not to confiscate weapons under 4” long. Bill C-391 is aimed at
addressing these growing and serious threats to safety in our hospitals.
“Justin Trudeau’s wacko drug legalization experiment has been a demonstrable failure. There is no sensible reason to permit
dangerous weapons in our hospitals, putting sick patients and healthcare staff in harm’s way,” said Findlay. “Only Common Sense
Conservatives will stop the crime, end the chaos and ensure that doctors, nurses and patients are always protected in our
hospitals.”
