As warnings of natural weather changes are being around the world. Somewhere it is raining heavily, the heat is unbearable, extremely cold weather and somewhere there are storms. These environmental and climatic factors have a significant impact on day-to-day life. It is happening and for this, every government tries to tell people about precautionary measures.
Similarly, BC had very pleasant weather in June, which is often hot. But when July started, the weather began to show its effects and the temperature rose from 30 degrees centigrade to 35 degrees centigrade and above in Southern areas.
For us South and Central Asians, it is very normal but in Canada, the Ultraviolet rays (UV) may reach above the safety level. The second thing is the design of the houses and the use of materials that are made keeping in mind mostly the winter and snow season.
Another thing is that the days are very long, and the nights are very short, so the feeling of heat is more. The good thing is that children are currently on vacation from school and when the weather cools down in the evening, they can be taken to different parks. Because even though there is an Air-conditioning system here in the summer, the feeling of heat can be minimized by going out and enjoying the weather.
However, in this heat wave, some necessary preventive measures are necessary for us and our families, especially for the elderly, sick and children:
Here are some:
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid caffeinated drinks, as they can cause dehydration.
Cooling Centers:
If your home isn’t properly cooled, consider going to a designated cooling center in your community where you can avoid the heat.
•Limit outdoor activities:
If possible, avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day (usually late morning to mid-afternoon). If you must be outside, seek shade and take frequent breaks.
•Wear appropriate clothing: Choose light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing to help your body maintain a normal temperature.
•Watch out for vulnerable people: Watch out for
elderly neighbors, young children, and people with chronic diseases, as they are more prone to heat-related diseases.
•Use fans and air conditioning: Use fans and air conditioning to cool your home, if available. Make sure they are working properly before the heat wave arrives.
•Never leave children or pets in the car: The temperature inside the car can rise dangerously fast, even with the windows open. Never leave children or pets unattended in the car.
•Recognize the symptoms of heat-related illness:
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious conditions that require immediate attention. Symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, and increased body temperature. If you or someone else is experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately for medical help.
•Stay Informed: Stay up to date with weather forecasts and heat warnings issued by local authorities. This will help you plan activities and take proper precautions.
•Modify your routine:
If possible, adjust your daily activities to take advantage of cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evening, for outdoor exercise or work.
By following these
precautions, individuals can reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and stay safe during a heat wave. Personal health and well-being must be prioritized during severe weather events like this one, call 911 immediately in case of emergency.
BC Provincial elections and political parties
British Columbia New Democratic Party (BC NDP):
David Eby, who has been the leader and Premier of the BC NDP party since
October 2022, is working day and night for the strength of his party.
Some of the NDP MLAs are not willing to seek a third- or fourth-times election, which is a worrier sign for the Premier, there will be
difficulties in the selection of new candidates.
Now let’s see what happens in the future.
Similarly, a few Muslim candidates are participating also in the BC election with the Conservative
Party, BCNDP, United BC, and Green Party.
Some independent candidates are also taking part.
Whether Muslim candidates are independent or with any party, the most important tasks are their homework, attracting voters, and popularizing public opinion. The upcoming three months are very important for candidates and voters. God willing, if any MLA is elected among the Muslim communities, then the voice of the Muslim community can be reached in the Parliament because the Muslim community is also facing numerous problems and it has become very important to reach some candidates to raise the voice.
Voting is your right as well as your duty. While choosing the candidate, national interest should be kept in front, not personal interest.
What do you think,?
