What are the latest updates on the CBSA’s crackdown on immigration enforcement?
Recently, the CBSA has intensified immigration raids across Canada, targeting construction companies, pizza stores, and restaurants.
These operations aim to identify individuals working without authorization, often for cash.
Reports indicate a significant focus on enforcing immigration laws, reflecting heightened scrutiny of industries that may employ unauthorized workers in recent months.
Immigration Consultant Syed Khan emphasized the importance of adhering to visa conditions, stating, “Employers must ensure workers possess valid visas; they can’t absolve themselves of responsibility by claiming ignorance.” Several workers are being detained pending hearings on their eligibility to stay and work in Canada, while others were released on conditions. Employers of unauthorized workers can also be liable to heavy penalties of up to $50,000.
Recently, CBSA officers conducted raids at construction sites and farms in major Canadian cities, including Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Abbotsford, BC, detaining individuals suspected of illegal work. Officers can issue arrest warrants for those deemed inadmissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Mr. Syed Khan advised that no one should work illegally and to look for available options to work legally. This will result in a negative record when returning to Canada or any other developed country.
