Punjab floods ravage 2.45 million lives

Floods triggered by heavy inflows in the rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab have left 41 people dead, 2.45 million affected, and more than 3,200 villages submerged, according to a fresh report released by the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday. Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed said that under the Chief Minister’s directives, compensation for human and agricultural losses will be ensured. He confirmed that nearly 1 million people have been evacuated to safer places, while over 700,000 livestock were also shifted.To support the victims, the provincial government has established 395 relief camps, 392 medical camps, and 336 veterinary camps across the worst-hit districts.
River flows at critical levels:
Water flow in the River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala was recorded at 253,000 cusecs, while at Head Sulemanki, the flow was recorded at 124,000 cusecs.
The Chenab River carries a major flood wave toward South Punjab with 96,000 cusecs at Marala, 120,000 at Khanki, and 135,000 at Qadirabad. At Trimmu Headworks, an “extremely high flood” is raging with 516,000 cusecs.
In the Ravi River, water levels reached 54,000 cusecs at Jassar, 60,000 at Shahdara, 137,000 at Balloki, and 107,000 at Sidhnai Headworks.
Dam levels:
The Relief Commissioner said Mangla Dam is 82% full, while Tarbela Dam has reached 100% capacity. He also said that across the border, India’s Bhakra Dam is 84% full, Pong Dam 98%, and Thein Dam 92%.
With rivers swelling and reservoirs near full capacity, authorities have urged residents of low-lying areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation advisories. Source: 24newshd.tv
Floods damaged vast areas of farmland in KP: UN-OCHA
ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs has said that 3,233 acres of agricultural land were damaged during the ongoing floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ‘Rapid Needs Assessment’ report prepared by UN-OCHA says Buner recorded the largest losses of agricultural land with 1,157 acres affected, followed by Swat with 853 acres, Shangla with 559 acres, and Swabi with 330 acres. Over 80 per cent of people reported crop losses which were significant in Battagram and Mansehra, while Lower Dir and Torghar reported smaller but notable losses, further threatening food security and livelihoods, the UN-OCHA report says.
People lost about 6,206 livestock across the affected areas of 10 districts. Buner reported the highest losses with 4,818 animals, followed by Swat with 618, Shangla with 295, Battagram with 219, and Swabi with 105. Smaller but significant losses were recorded in Bajaur, Mansehra, Torghar, and Upper Dir, while Lower Dir reported minimal
