Accountability and Transparency in Public Fundraising

Accountability and transparency in public fundraising are essential responsibilities for every organization that receives donations from the community. Across the world, many NGOs, hospitals, educational institutions, humanitarian organizations, and disaster relief groups organize fundraising dinners and campaigns to help people affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, displacement, injuries, and humanitarian crises.
Many of these organizations are registered charities and issue tax-deductible receipts to donors. Supporting good causes is always appreciated, but public money is a serious trust and responsibility. Every organization that collects donations must remain answerable to the public at all times.
Before organizing another fundraising event, NGOs and fundraising organizers should publicly provide a clear summary explaining:
*How much money was collected
*How many donors contributed
*Where the funds were received
*How and where the money was spent
*What projects were completed
*What amount, if any, still remains
This information should be shared openly through social media, websites, community platforms, or print media so donors can have confidence that their contributions are being used properly.
An important question being raised in British Columbia is why many fundraising organizations do not come forward to support local causes such as:
*BC Sick Children’s Hospital Foundation,
*Canadian Red Cross
*Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation
*There are also concerns about shortages of classrooms in schools and the limited participation of some communities in blood donation drives. Many people believe that local humanitarian and healthcare needs should also receive attention and support alongside international causes.
Miracle Media respectfully requests all NGOs and fundraising organizations to maintain complete transparency in receiving and spending public donations. Detailed financial summaries should be publicly announced through social media and print media platforms before future fundraising campaigns are launched.
Through openness, accountability, and honest reporting, unnecessary controversies and misunderstandings within the community can be reduced, and public trust can become stronger.
Thank you.
