On October 11th 2020, 6 teams from various leagues from all over BC came together in support of Islamic Relief’s response efforts in Karachi after the devastating floods that took away the lives and the livelihood of many. Players from different cultures and religions showed their enthusiasm and joy while playing for an amazing cause. At the end of the day, Cosmos, a team from the BC Cricket League took the dub and the Eagles were the Runner Ups, a team from a local Junior League.
In Pakistan, 3 days of monsoon rains caused damage and flooding, especially in the port city of Karachi. In Afghanistan, torrential rain triggered flash floods across 9 provinces, the hardest hit being the province of Parwan, on the border of Kabul.
This flood season further worsens the threat and spread of Covid-19 cases within the region. People will need access to critical items such as, food, water, and medical supplies. Our offices and staff are on the ground in both countries assessing humanitarian needs, and working to get survivors the urgent aid they so desperately need. You can support this initiative too by donating online at islamicrelief.ca. We would like to give a huge shoutout to our sponsors who made this event possible; Stallions Cricket Center for providing the venue, and Chicken World Canada for their continuous support for Islamic Relief Canada.
