The beauty of goals is that they can always be made

Four months into the new year, most of us have forgotten our new year’s resolution much less keep up with them. They are great to create a positive change in your life or to slowly develop the life you desire. It could be starting a business, read a new book every month, finally book that trip, or get a six pack. We do this every year; make grand plans for the year and get disappointed as reminders come along that none of those goals were accomplished. The beauty of goals is that they can always be made, changed, and achieved. The spring season is one of new beginnings. Instead of feeling disappointed, we can take this new season to revisit our goals and see if they can be achieved and fit our lifestyle. But how do we make sure we can reach them?
1.Don’t talk about them until you have reached those goals.
Turns out, the more we talk about our goals the less likely we are to actually act on them and thus achieve them. It tricks our mind to think that we have already done half of it so doing the actual work of our goals becomes less appealing. Many people have opinions regarding your goals and the remarks can discourage us to act on them. Keep your goals to yourself to reduce remarks and distractions. Use the energy spent talking about it on actually doing them and seek validation of your goals by results and not the opinions of others.
2.Create a habit-based mindset
Thinking of the commitment and energy required to start a business or get a six pack can be exhausting. It borders sometimes on the realm of impossibility. But thinking of working towards a healthy body by going to the gym three times a week does not seem impossible. Or creating a list of your potential clients and setting up one meeting with a mentor in the industry of your business. Setting actionable goals and looking at them as a way to create habit will help create consistency and take you closer to your new beginning.
3.Less thinking More Doing
Spring is all about new beginnings as we emulate that by thinking less about how much we have to clean and embrace spring cleaning. It’s less talking to others about how and if they clean for spring and just simply doing it how you like to do it. Why not take this approach to other goals? It can be beneficial to talk to others in the field, but we must not look at the opinions or the journey of others before but as motivation and seek the reasons why we want to achieve our goals from within.
4.Keep it small and be accountable to yourself
Similar to creating healthy habits, keeping our actionable goals small and achievable make it more likely for us to follow it. It can mean cleaning only the junk drawer today as part of our spring cleaning instead of rearranging the entire kitchen cabinet contents. Keeping it small helps us measure our goals and be accountable to ourselves.
