Aza-e-Hussain Association of BC ( Surrey ), organized its Annual Muharram Procession on Sunday On Aug 15, to commemorate the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions. Following social distancing rules for COVID-19, the Ashura Jaloos started at the Vancouver Library and ended at Robson square Vancouver Art Gallery with great discipline and respect of Hussain(R.A). This year there was a tremendous turnout.
The crowd walked in Downtown Vancouver streets and was seated in front of the Art Gallery to listen to many local Noha Khawns who recited the Nasheeds. Bayan/speeches about the martyrs of Karbala and their sacrifices were delivered for Islam local speakers including special guest speaker Molana Iftikhar Abid Naqvi. The purpose of the march was to spread the message of Imam Hussain to the local communities.
Imam Hussain (R.A) is an example for us to speak the truth in front of a cruel ruler, voice our support for the oppressed and never get afraid of taking action against injustice and
corruption. We should remember Imam’s golden words “Those who are silent when others are oppressed are guilty of oppression themselves”.
