The South Fraser Regional Science Fair took place on April 13 and 14 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey. It showcased extraordinary talent across the lower mainland from different schools. The fair displayed over 100 different projects from public and independent schools in both Surrey and Delta. The competition urges children to have curiosity and help change the world in their own way. Students from different schools showcased their abilities in engineering, health sciences, digital technology and more. Students used advanced skills like coding and engineering to master their project. Many projects were used by two people to design and create their project. Five students were picked by the Judges to go to the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Late May. These projects help to solve real-world problems like detecting earthquakes, cancer diagnosis, and much more. The fair helped students to showcase their creativity and critical thinking to other people. Students could even take past ideas and use them now and improve them to show the community their intelligence. Out of these projects, 8 were selected from Iqra Islamic School. Three Iqra students brought home medals including Arhum Arslan (Bronze), Umair Abowath (Bronze) and Hamna Ahmad (Silver) while Hania Hussain won a special award. These students show the community that Muslims are innovators, and the future is in good hands.
