Victoria, B.C., April 13, 2026 — The spirit of unity, diversity, and celebration was on full display at the British Columbia Legislature as members of the Muslim community gathered to mark Eid al-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in Islam.
The event was attended by David Eby, along with Amna Shah, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives and for Mental Health and Addictions. Raj Chouhan and several Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were also present to join in the celebrations.
A large number of Muslim community members were invited to the Legislative Building in Victoria, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and cultural harmony.
During the ceremony, speakers including Premier David Eby, Speaker Raj Chouhan, and MLA Amna Shah, Acting opposition leader of conservative party, Trvor Halford extended their heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. They highlighted the importance of diversity, mutual respect, and the contributions of Muslim Canadians to the province’s social and cultural fabric.
The event served as a meaningful opportunity to recognize and
celebrate the values of compassion, generosity, and community that define Eid al-Fitr, further strengthening the bonds between government representatives and the diverse communities they serve.
