When Calls the Heart actress Mamie Laverock is back home, nearly three months after she fell from a fifth-storey balcony at a Vancouver hospital.
Laverock, 20, fell from a balcony at St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver on May 26.
After four extensive surgeries and getting off life support, Laverock is now home, according to her official Facebook page.
“Dreams do come true. Welcome home Mamie,” said an earlier post, which included a photo of a colourful cake, a rainbow balloon arch, and a handmade poster that had a picture of Laverock and the message: “Home sweet home.”
“She’s still severely injured but we will take care of her privately,” someone wrote in response to a question from a well-wisher. “She needed to be at home. So happy for her.”
Laverock is best known for her role playing the character Rosaleen Sullivan in the Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart, which has been filmed in Langley since 2014 and is in its 11th season. She was born in Richmond and was cast in the show when she was nine.
She suffered an undisclosed medical emergency in Winnipeg on May 11 and was taken to a hospital there by her mother Nicole Rockmann there before she was transferred to hospital in Vancouver.
Following the fall, her family had said the recovery was unclear, but “she is alive” and “showing signs of improvement.”
Rockmann had told the Los Angeles Times that the fall was not intended. “This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability,” she told the Times.
Providence Health Care, which
operates St. Paul’s Hospital,
confirmed the fall, but did not
provide details, citing privacy. It had said it would conduct an internal
review to determine what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety.
A GoFundMe for Laverock raised more than $39,000, surpassing its $30,000 goal. It was closed July 17, with a message from Laverock thanking her supporters.
“I don’t even know what to say.
My heart is full,” she wrote. “Thank you again. I have no words to
describe my gratitude.”
