On June 9, Sunday, a crowd of several cars and hundreds of Pakistani–
Canadians gathered in British Columbia to protest the detention of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The event was organized by the Pakistani diaspora in response to Khan’s call for global protests.
The rally began at 2 pm at South Surrey Park & Ride and concluded at Holland Park, Surrey, where participants chanted slogans in solidarity with Imran Khan.
Speakers, including Saif Pannu, Fahim Shah, Ameen Khan, and Anila Shoaib, addressed the crowd, demanding the release of Khan and thousands of other political leaders and workers detained on baseless charges.
This event marks the fourth rally of its kind in BC, with previous protests organized by PTI BC since May 2022.
Similar protests took place in New York, Dallas, LA, Toronto, London, and Paris on the same day.
“The fascist regime of Shahbaz Sharif and the establishment led by General Asim
Munir and Qazi Faez Asia must release Imran Khan and other political leaders and workers,” emphasized the speakers.
The Pakistani-Canadian community in BC, numbering around 20,000, has been deeply disturbed by the events in their home country and stands united in their support for
Imran Khan.
