Alhamdulillah! As The Miracle enters its 25th year, marking the beginning of its Silver Jubilee, we take this moment to reflect on an incredible journey spanning 24 years. This milestone is not just a celebration of longevity but of perseverance, commitment, and an unwavering dedication to the Muslim community in British Columbia and beyond.
On February 23, 2001, The Miracle was launched as the first Muslim newspaper in BC, envisioned as a platform to give voice to our community, highlight our stories, and create a bridge between Muslims and the broader society. Since its inception, The Miracle has served as a beacon of truth, harmony, and representation, standing firmly by its slogan, “Bringing Harmony to All Communities.”
From a humble beginning as a biweekly newspaper, The Miracle has become a respected institution in the BC Muslim community, recognized for its bilingual coverage in English and Urdu. Over the years, we have reported on thousands of events, shared the thoughts of countless contributors, and provided an authentic representation of Muslim life in Canada.
One of our proudest accomplishments is the establishment of a dynamic and diverse team of writers, including local, national, and international contributors. Their perspectives and insights have enriched our publication, allowing us to offer a broad, well-rounded overview of Muslim affairs. Moreover, we take immense pride in being a trusted source of information not only for Muslims but also for those from different backgrounds who seek to understand Islam and its followers better.
Despite challenges faced by the print industry,
The Miracle has
successfully expanded into digital platforms,
ensuring accessibility to a wider audience through our website and social media.
We have remained a steadfast publication, even during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many other print media outlets struggled to survive. Our unwavering commitment to our readers ensured uninterrupted publication throughout the crisis.
No journey is without obstacles. In the past two decades, The Miracle has faced financial constraints, changing media landscapes, and the need to constantly adapt to technological advancements. The transition from print to digital has been a challenge, as the decline of traditional advertising revenue affects the sustainability of independent media. Additionally, the rise of Islamophobia post-9/11 placed an added responsibility on Muslim media to provide accurate, balanced reporting and counter misrepresentation in mainstream media.
Yet, through all these challenges, we have persisted. Our dedication to ethical journalism and community service has kept us moving forward, guided by faith and the unwavering support of our readers, writers, and
advertisers.
As we embark on our 25th year, The Miracle is more determined than ever to uphold its founding mission. Looking ahead, we aim to strengthen our digital presence to reach a global audience, encourage more young Muslim writers and journalists to contribute and shape the narrative of our community, continue recognizing and celebrating individuals and organizations that serve the community through our annual awards, expand our role in interfaith dialogue and community building, and partner with emerging Muslim media platforms to amplify our collective voice.
The world is evolving, and so is the role of media. Malcolm X once said, “The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power.” Muslim media has a duty to exercise this power responsibly, with integrity, and in a way that fosters unity and understanding.
Progress is not achieved in isolation. It requires collective effort. We urge our community members to support The Miracle in any way possible—whether through advertising, writing, sharing our content, or simply providing feedback. A thriving Muslim media is essential to nation-building and to ensuring that our stories, struggles, and triumphs are heard.
As we celebrate this 24-year milestone, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every individual who has been part of this journey—our readers, writers, advertisers, and well-wishers. May Allah (SWT) bless our efforts and grant us the strength to continue serving our community for many more years to come.
Jazaakum Allahu Khairan.
