Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement after Liberals on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics shut down its investigation into the SNC-Lavalin corruption scandal:
“For the second time in two weeks, Justin Trudeau has shut down a parliamentary investigation into his involvement in the SNC-Lavalin corruption scandal.
“Last week, he used his Liberal majority on the Justice Committee to end that committee’s investigation before it could hear again from former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould.“He pulled the same stunt today at the Ethics Committee, having his Liberal MPs vote down a Conservative motion to have Ms. Wilson-Raybould and former Treasury Board President Jane Philpott to testify.“Despite several days of Liberals publicly urging both Ms. Wilson-Raybould and Ms. Philpott to speak up – to ‘put up or shut up,’ as one MP put it – Liberals voted to prevent them both from being heard.
“There can now be no doubt that Mr. Trudeau is supressing the most incriminating details of the SNC-Lavalin corruption scandal. He is more afraid of the truth than the consequences of his ongoing coverup.
“Mr. Trudeau cannot run and hide forever. Conservatives will continue to use every tool available to us to hold him to account and get the answers Canadians deserve.”
