On June 25th, British Columbia’s first ever halal food festival was organized by the Digital Egg with the help of multiple sponsors and volunteers. With over 30 vendors serving food and drinks along with many fun activities for kids, the event was a success. It was a Free Entry event and open to all communities to visit at the Surrey Civic Plaza outdoor community hub.

Vendors represented a diverse range of communities including Pakistani, Indonesian, Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, Indian, and Central Asian communities along with mainstream halal favorites like pizza, burgers and tacos. Everyone served delicious and fresh food at their stalls and people were excited to try it as observed with the long queues in front of all stalls.

Food lovers were willing to wait over half an hour with their friends and families to try different treats. The event was  well-received and people hope to have it return next year at a bigger venue.
