The Canada Youth Development Association (CYDA), a newly formed grassroots initiative, held its first landmark event on June 29, 2025, marking the official launch of the organization and setting an ambitious agenda to support youth and families across British Columbia.
In the third week of June, CYDA’s founding group held its first voting process to establish the core members’ committee, gathering ten dedicated individuals to guide the association’s direction. Together, they selected the name CYDA, with the tagline “CYDA Rasta”—meaning the straight path, a path of truth, justice, and peace. This mission reflects CYDA’s commitment to helping young people grow into engaged, ethical citizens while strengthening family bonds.
To introduce CYDA to the wider community, the association organized a vibrant community BBQ and get-together at Bear Creek Park., the event exceeded all expectations, welcoming over 250 attendees, including parents, educators, and local youth. Among the distinguished guests was Member of Parliament Ernie Klassen, who applauded the group’s vision and pledged support for its future endeavours.
The day was filled with activities designed to bring families together and encourage healthy, real-world engagement. Highlights included:
1. A seven-a-side soccer match that energized young participants and spectators alike,
2. A musical chairs competition enjoyed by ladies and children,
3. A henna corner that offered artistic fun,
4. A spirited 100-meter race for young fathers under 40,
5. Under 13 group of children had 100 meter race was enjoyed by everyone.
6. Gift cards were awarded by the members of the core committee.
During closing remarks, the Acting Chairperson shared CYDA’s commitment to:
Supporting parents as they navigate the challenges of raising youth in an increasingly digital age,
Organizing regular community
activities that draw children and teens away from screens and into nature,
Fostering environments that encourage curiosity, personal growth, and civic engagement.
Looking ahead, CYDA announced that by the end of July 2025, it will hold elections to appoint an official leadership panel to guide programs and operations.
The inaugural event was more than a celebration; it was a statement of purpose. With strong community turnout and a clear mission, CYDA is poised to become a dynamic force promoting youth development, family well-being, and the values of justice and peace in the community and the city.
