Surrey, August 17 – The Friends of Pakistan Canada (FOP) hosted a vibrant celebration to mark the 78th Independence Day of Pakistan at the Taj Park Convention Centre in Surrey.  The event brought together a diverse group of community leaders, public officials, and families for an evening of patriotism, reflection, and cultural pride.

The Honorable Consul General of Pakistan in Vancouver, Mr. Shahzad Hussain, attended as the Guest of Honour. The event also welcomed numerous distinguished guests, including:
  MP Sukh Dhaliwal, MP Gurbax Singh Saini, MLA Garry Begg, MLA Jagrup Brar, MLA Amna Sha Surrey City Councilor Mike Bose and Councilor Linda Annis Leaders from various community associations, the CMMC, and members of the media.
The evening’s program was co-hosted by Ms. Fareen Kamran and Mr. Amir Bajwa. It began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Abdul Salis Rasool, followed by an English translation delivered by Br. Tamim. A beautiful Naat-e-Rasool Maqbool (SAW) was presented by Saad Rasool.
Both the Canadian and Pakistani national anthems were played, followed by a delightful performance of “Dil Dil Pakistan” by children dressed in traditional Pakistani attire, proudly waving national flags.
Mr. Nusrat Hussain shared the history of Friends of Pakistan Canada, paying tribute to its founder, the late Liaqat Ali Bajwa, and offering a thoughtful overview of Pakistan’s journey since 1947—including its political transitions and historical milestones.
This was followed by speeches from MLA Garry Begg, MLA Jagrup Brar, and MLA Amna Sha, who expressed their admiration and support for the Pakistani Canadian community.
Consul General Shahzad Hussain addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Pakistan’s independence and the importance of community engagement abroad. FOP Awards were presented to the BC NDP MLAs and the Delta Warrior Cricket Team leader, recognizing their contributions and community engagement.
President Abdul Rauf Khan extended heartfelt thanks to all the guests, volunteers, and participants. A delicious dinner was served, followed by a musical night featuring the incredibly talented Jamal Raja from Edmonton, Alberta. He captivated the audience with soulful folk songs, geets, and ghazals, accompanied by skilled musicians—bringing the celebration to a joyful close.
The event was a true reflection of cultural pride, unity, and the enduring spirit of the Pakistani community in Canada.
