Fairs, festivals and events bring people together to celebrate traditions, enjoy arts and entertainment, and connect with family, friends, and neighbours.
Like many parts of our economy, the events sector has been heavily impacted by the hardships of the last few years. Whether it’s to rebuild events after years of the pandemic, the rising cost of hosting events due to inflation, or the devastation of last year’s wildfires, our events sector needs our help.
Our New Democrat government is providing $15 million in one-time grants to eligible events through the Fairs, Festivals and Events fund. These events are an incredible contribution to our communities that not only generate and boost our local economies, but also bring so much joy to all of us.
Applications are being accepted until February 25. If you know of a local event that could use support, please encourage them to apply here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/tourism-immigration/tourism-resources/tourism-funding-programs/fairs-festivals-events-fund
This week we also announced support for more than 220 B.C. musicians and music companies, to help grow the music industry.
The grants will not only support B.C. artists to create new work and develop their careers, but they will also help promote more business activity in B.C., fostering development, innovation, and partnerships. That means more opportunities for B.C. artists and more jobs for people throughout the province.
Overall, it was a great week for arts and culture here in Surrey-Panorama!
Let’s welcome this Lunar New Year, a new beginning with open hearts, gratitude, and excitement for the adventures ahead. Premier David Eby celebrated and connected with Asian communities. The Year of the Dragon is an auspicious one, with hope, love, health, and prosperity. The dragon is considered a symbol of power, strength, and good fortune. From: Jinny Sims, MLA Office
