After a three what long delay to the COVID 19 Pandemic, the Muslim Student’s Association at UBC Vancouver held its Annual Grand Iftar on Friday, April 29th. The Grand Community Iftar is a staple event for MSA UBC and this year they were joined by over 400 attendees and supported by more than 50 volunteers. Other esteemed guests from the community included representatives from UBC Admin such as Vice President Students Ainsley Carry, Islamic Relief Canada, Fawad Kalsi and some of his team from PennyAppeal Canada as well as one of the community’s Muftis, Nabeel Khan. The program emceed by Former Secretary and second year student Fatima Nadeem included speeches from former and current MSA Presidents Amman Zaman and Ahmed Shawkat, Alumni and Chaplain Shaheer Muhammad and highlighted the work MSA UBC has done over the course of this Ramadan. In collaboration with PAC and IRC, MSA UBC would distribute Iftar Dinners to over 250 attendees every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as well as every night in the last ten nights. This Grand Community Iftar was meant to rebuild connections from before the pandemic as well as to fundraise for the MSA so that it may continue serving the Muslim community on campus. MSA UBC was incredibly pleased with both the turnout and the overall support of the community and looks forward to continuing this traditional event next year!
