Eid Mubarak to all around the world. As Ramadan ends, most of us return to our previous life with new resolutions but often find ourselves going back to our old habits. It could be because the shift is so dramatic that cannot be implemented so quickly. However, like all resolutions they must be incorporated into our lives in a way that fits our lifestyles and should be achievable with small steps. We have denied ourselves of worldly pleasures and devoted our time and energy into prayer and other godly behavior. How can we emphasize our learnings into our life?
Give Back
During the month of Ramadan, we took extra steps to give back to our community and the needy whether it be material things, food, or money. It was a way to take care of the vulnerable in our society free of any praises in return. We ate and spent time with our family and neighbours and practiced care when speaking to others. We can continue to keep this spirit alive beyond Ramadan and make efforts to be good members of our community. This could be mean donating our time, things, money, or voice to people or causes that are often forgotten until the next Ramadan. The traditions of giving back to our community can be a practise we incorporate without needing the religious obligations for the remainder of the year.
Become Spiritual
We fondly look back on the past month where we felt at peace, taking moments to reflect on ourselves during prayer. When we were hungry and thirsty during the day, we practiced grounding ourselves to the plight of the less fortunate and others in situations and developed patience. We were careful about the words we spoke and the actions we committed. Gratitude, meditation, and reflection are some practices that cross all borders, race, and religion when practiced. It can help us all be better on our own and as members of the community.
Resist One of the main lessons of Ramadan is to resist the temptation of worldly pleasures. For some this could mean abstaining from music, television, swearing, anger, eating, or drinking certain things, and more. These things can vary from person to person but have a similar theme and foundation – it is something we believe is detrimental to us. Although it can feel impossible to give up everything that people do in Ramadan, we can continue to try and resist some of these things in our life as we move on to the remaining of the year.
There are many countless lessons to learn from Ramadan but the key is to take small steps and focus on the ones we find the greatest peace and happiness with when trying to choose the ones to create lasting habits.

No shadows to depress you, only joys to surround you, God himself to bless you, these are my wishes for you, Today, tomorrow, and every day. Happy Eid!
