The Ukrainian leader had warned for days that Russian forces might attempt “something particularly cruel” this week. The lethal attack hit the town of Chaplyne in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, he told a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Ukraine had been bracing for especially heavy attacks surrounding the national holiday that commemorates Ukraine’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, which this year fell on the six month point of the 2022 Russian invasion. It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited the Ukrainian capital Kyiv again, where he was presented with The Order of Liberty, Ukraine’s highest award which can be bestowed on foreign nationals…
