On August 27, Voices of Muslim Women Foundation and Richmond FC collaborated to organize their first Girls Soccer Summer Camp 2023. Girls were invited to kick-start their soccer skills, learn about leadership on and off the field, make new friends, and experience the joy of the beautiful game in a supportive and inclusive environment. This camp was open to all girls between the ages of four and fourteen who love soccer, regardless of their background or skill level.
Over 150 girls registered to showcase their skills and learn new techniques at the South Arm Complex in Richmond. Participants brought their energy and enthusiasm to the field. Watching their passion for the game and dedication to learning and growing was truly inspiring. Sara Raouf, local soccer player, coach and teacher, delivered the keynote highlighting women in soccer who exemplify values such as Respect, Authenticity and Effort. MP Parm Bains of Steveston-Richmond East and Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie attended the event and expressed their support for initiatives like this that have a positive impact on society.
For Misbah Naseer, the executive director of Voices of Muslim Women, the collaboration with Richmond FC is well in line with her organization’s goal to promote confidence and leadership skills at a young age while creating opportunities for girls and women underrepresented in fields like athletics. “Representation matters both on and off the field. Our foundation strives to create an encouraging environment that stimulates young minds and inspires them to be confident female leaders in their communities and partnering with a professional and experienced club like Richmond FC provides an excellent opportunity to young girls to learn from the best while having fun.”
“What I live and breathe for is helping people to develop at any level on and off the field,” stated Marius Roevde, Executive Director of Richmond FC. “By actively engaging in community impact programs, we are building a positive brand and making a difference as community builders. It is my fervent wish to see more businesses actively engage in such initiatives.”
The event was made possible with the generous support of the City of Richmond and sponsorship from Coho Commissary.
At the end of the event, Voices of Muslim announced its support for girls who wish to continue their soccer journey with Richmond FC by offering $2000 in total in scholarships with the club.
