Surrey, BC – Whether you’re going away for the summer or spending your free time at home, having books to read is a great way to keep busy. Surrey Libraries can help you find the perfect book for summer reading. The Library is also offering a variety of fun and exciting programs throughout the summer for both children and teens.
The highly anticipated Summer Reading Club sign-up begins on June 14. The program is easy to include in any summer plans and kids of all ages can join to earn stickers and a super reader medal. Teens are also invited to sign-up for Teen Summer Adventure starting on June 18 and take home a booklet of fun activities and challenges. Every weekly challenge completed throughout the summer earns contest entries for prizes. Visit your nearest Surrey Libraries branch or surreylibraries.ca to sign up.
Summer is also the perfect time for kids and teens to find a great book to escape into. Children who read over the summer do better in school and are often more prepared for the upcoming school year. Surrey Libraries staff have compiled lists of excellent books for all ages that are sure to make summer reading fun and spark curiosity.
“Every book is an adventure,” says Sara Grant, Manager Youth Services. “Reading lets you jump wholeheartedly into your wildest imagination. Sometimes you must be brave and curious to venture into some books.”
Visit a local Surrey Libraries branch for book recommendations, summer reading book displays and lists of programs for all ages. All summer programs can also be found online at surreylibraries.ca/events. Those who prefer not to carry books on vacation can download the Libby app and access a large selection of eBooks and downloadable audiobooks for reading on the go.
