By: Imtiaz Popat for Council
Surrey Community Alliance candidates for Surrey City Council were in attendance at Wake Up Rally at Surrey City Hall in solidarity with the community that is grieving and angry at the loss of two young teenagers to gang violence.
The SCA believes that Gang Violence is one of the key issues in the upcoming City Council election this fall. City council must take leadership in addressing this crisis. We are dismayed that the current council has failed on this issue.
SCA fully supports the call by #StandUpForOurKids to the creation of the Multi-stakeholder committee. This should involve the law makers/enforcers, Surrey School District personnel and most importantly community members. We need a multi-pronged approach to tackle this issue.
We are proposing that Surrey should consider its own Police Force which is more accountable to the community. Many say that this could help in addressing the gang violence and other public safety issues the citizens of Surrey have endured for too long.
Enough is enough,” Surrey Deserves Better”.
ISCC and MAT Strongly Condemn Attacks on Edson, Alberta Mosque
By: Imam Syed Soharwardy.
(Calgary) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) and Muslims Against Terrorism (MAT) strongly condemn Saturday’s attack on Edson Alberta Mosque. Police are investigating the attack. “Its shocking that such a hateful attack can take place in a small city of Alberta where nearly 40 Muslim families have been living for decades”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy.
Based upon the footage from the surveillance camera it looks like an arson. Therefore, we expect that the police will not rest unless they capture the culprit or culprits. Its government’s responsibility to safeguard the freedom of every citizen. Places of worship of all religions must be respected and protected. We are thankful to the first responders in Edson for controlling and extinguishing the fire quickly which prevented the further damage.
We hope this was an isolated incident which does not reflect the society in Alberta. In Alberta the lives and properties of all citizens are safe, and we must keep it this way. ISCC and MAT are grateful to Mr. Jim Eglinski, MP Yellowhead, Premier Rachel Notley and several other politicians for standing with the Muslim community in Edson and condemning the attacks on the Edson Mosque. May God protect all of us from the evil of hate mongers. Amen.

PRESIDENT The Human Care BC Society
On this joyous occasion of Eid-ul Fitr,
I on behalf of my Directors and their families, wish you all Eid Mubrak.
Ramadhan was blessed with a favourable weather and peaceful environment and I pray
that our Fasting, Taraveeh, Sadaqah, Zaqaah and other prayers be accepted by Allah swt….Ameen.
I also take this opportunity to thank all who helped THE HUMAN CARE in its efforts
to successfully achieve:
*A BLANKET DRIVE-130 hampers, each containing a blanket, socks, gloves, toque and a scarf was given to the homeless
*Two FUND RAISING LUNCH DRIVES together made approximately $15,000.00 which has been directed to assist the FLOOD VICTIMS of Fiji Islands.
*FORTY WATER WELLS have been completed in desert areas of Rajasthan by the help of donors who have funded it for their own or deceased relatives’ sadaqa-e zaariyah or eesa le thawab.
*FITRANA, ZAKAAH, SADAQAH, FEEDIYAH and other donations were collected and immediately dispatched to the needy in Mewat, Meerut, Hariyana, Barmer and Behar in India and Fiji.
*LIBRARY BOOKS-some 2,000 misc books have been collected and shipped to all Fiji Schools which were affected by recent flood.
*USED CLOTHES & SHOES-We have partnered with Trash to Treasures who have placed collection bins all over town and Human Care is getting a percentage of this venture.
*TWO MASAJID have been completed in Kamaan Village of Mewat. May Allah swt accept this gesture of donors. There are many thatched Masajid which need replacement and this is one great opportunity to invest for ‘aakhirah’.
APPRECIATION – having completed six years under the HUMAN CARE banner, the Directors and volunteers were honoured with ‘appreciation plaques’ by the President. Masjid al Noor, Masjid Al Huda and Surrey Jamea Masjid were also recognized for their tireless support.
This year again we will organize QURBANI / SACRIFICE / UDHIYA in poor areas of India. It is expected that you will again make this happen so that the poor people can enjoy meat.
I thank all our Muslim Papers/ Media Groups for promoting our ‘aims and projects’. Without their publicity, we would not have reached this status today. Once again, Eid Mubarak to all.
