The airport was closed as emergency personnel and Transport Safety Board agents worked at the scene. A plane crashed while landing at Langley Regional Airport on Tuesday afternoon, leaving three people injured. According to Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig van Herk, police received several calls just after 3 p.m. reporting a plane had crashed at the airport. Van Herk said the plane struck a pickup truck that was traveling along 216th Street, which runs north-south along the eastern border of the airport, before crashing.
Langley Township deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins said it appears the plane came down too low over the road. Jenkins said the small craft went through a fence then crashed and caught fire, but the two occupants were able to escape before it was engulfed in flames.
The driver of the truck was also injured in the collision, and a Langley RCMP news release said all three people were taken to hospital, the truck driver by ground ambulance and the others by air.
“It is known the plane was occupied by the pilot and a passenger. Both have been transported to an area hospital,” said Van Herk. “A pickup truck traveling… along 216th Street, bordering the airport was struck as the plane was coming down.” The airport was closed as emergency personnel and Transport Safety Board agents worked at the scene.
The TSB confirmed it has deployed investigators to look into the crash involving the privately-registered Cessna 182.
