On Nov 23, Iqra Islamic School invited its Iqra family of students, parents, alumni and other supporters to raise funds for the high school project, an adjacent property at 96A Ave x 168 St, in Fleetwood, Surrey.

The fundraising dinner was held at Royal Banquet Hall in Surrey. The program was well conducted by Iqra’s current students including a beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran and its translation and well-coordinated presentations of nasheeds and poems by all grades (Kindergarten to Grade 7). Every child smiled ear to ear as they performed on the stage while their parents’ faces beamed with pride, often taking pictures and waving excitedly at the young performers. Performances by students from many grades reflected a very high standard of Arabic and Islamic program at the school.

Ms. Randa El-Khatib the Principal of the school, welcomed all the attendees and spoke about the importance of the Islamic high school. Dr. Ali Mihirig(President) updated everyone about the High school project. He explained that the land has been paid for in full now and the high school will soon be moving to the next phase of development. He asked everyone to continue their support. Chief guest Shaykh Abdalla Idris Ali spoke about the importance of education for students and encouraged all the attendees to open their hearts and donate generously for this noble educational cause. Sr Taala, an alumni of the school, also presented a beautiful poem at the event.
The fundraiser – which hosted approximately 700 guests – exceeded expectations with a successful collection of over $131,000 dollars. This tremendous success would not have been possible without the help of Allah (swt), and the support of the broader Muslim community.
